South Akim Rural Bank started commercial banking operations in 1984 at Nankese in the Suhum Kraboa Coaltar District with one branch and a workforce of seven(7). The bank currently has full-time employees of one hundred and two with a customer base of over thirty-three thousand. The bank now operates branches and a new branch would be fully operational before the end of the year to bring  the number to five. The bank is still rated first in the Eastern Region in terms of deposits and among the first ten rural and community banks in the country as a whole in terms of deposits and assets.
